Unrelated to Women But Equally Offensive “Jokes” Made by McCain

2008 - McCain was suggests increasing U.S. cigarette sales to Iran could be "a way of killing 'em."

Good foreign policy. Iran’s response from Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini: "We condemn such jokes and believe them to be inappropriate for a U.S. presidential candidate." Adding, "It is most evident that jokes about genocide will not be tolerated by Iranians or Americans."

On YouTube McCain jokingly quips off-handedly when addressing a question from a high school student about his (McCain’s) age. He replies, "you little jerk," before telling him, "You're drafted." McCain has also joked about torturing his own staff.

McCain’s Out-of-Control Staff Delivers Insults for Him

In 2006 a top aide to McCain freely offered up insults in response to Jean Rohoe, a speaker at her graduation, commencement speech. The aide, who went unrepentant, insulted Miss Rohoe and her entire graduating class telling them that it was “very unlikely any of you will ever possess … one small fraction of the character of John McCain.” So much for brave young women speaking their mind.

Although not an insult, McCain’s top economic advisor, Sen. Phil Gramm, made following remark that is insulting to all those struggling during our tough economic times (it is all in our heads, according to both Gramm and McCain):

"You've heard of mental depression; this is a mental recession … We may have a recession; we haven't had one yet." He further went on to state, "We have sort of become a nation of whiners … You just hear this constant whining, complaining about a loss of competitiveness, America in decline … Misery sells newspapers," Mr. Gramm said. "Thank God the economy is not as bad as you read in the newspaper every day."

McCain’s reply, was of course, to offer joke instead of an apology or disagreement. McCain simply joked to reporters that he planned to make Gramm ambassador to Belarus (Gramm had once been seen as a prospective Treasury secretary).

Accountability Issues

A Nation’s leader should be held to a higher level of accountability about what comes out of his mouth. In fact, a Nation’s leader should already know better and not have to be chastised.

Inappropriate humor that seems funny to John McCain, is often infuriating and demeaning to many of the very people he is supposed to lead and defend, and he targets women most often.

The kind of jokes he dishes are the kind one would expect in a frat house. Not in the White House.
