Biden Uses Google+ For Fireside Hangout On Gun Control

By January 25, 2013

Follow me on:

Vice President Biden held an online conversation on gun violence Thursday, January 24, 2013 in an effort to engage more people in the conversation about gun control, an agenda Biden refers to as "gun safety" (not gun control.)

The event - dubbed a "fireside hangout" in a nod to former president Franklin D. Roosevelt's "fireside chats" - was hosted by Google.  (Source: Washington Post)

If you have not heard of Google+ you are not reading my blog.  When Google+ first came out, it attracted few users and much criticism.  Google responded appropriately by making significant changes in features and presentation in an effort to attract business owners and take Facebook head on.  If you have not tried Google+ in a while, it is time to revisit the platform.

You may be thinking, "great, another thing to do."  But don't think of Google+ as one more chore -- think of it as another way to engage your audience, build social networks, and brand your business.  I know, many of you still doubt me.   With Facebook and Twitter do you really need to use Google+?  Yes.  At least for now.  For as long as Google remains king among search engines you need to continue to cater to Google's own interests (as well as your own).  So keep your Facebook business page, Tweet on Twitter, but do get on board with Google+ if you care anything about search engine optimization of your website(s).

The bottom line is that Google+ is important to Google.  I am still predicting an SEO dooms day where Google+ and the use of other Google products, will become mandatory if you want your business to show well in their searches.  You can stay ahead of the curve, should that day come, by getting in an establishing yourself and your business now.  When the lemmings come later, it will be much harder to play catchup with all the "ants" that worked hard while the "grasshoppers" played.
