Talk About The Relationship and How it Made You Feel
I felt very pressured -- he kept coming on to me. I felt bad even though we never really did more than flirt because he was married. Then without warning he kissed me once after hours. I quit my job after that. I felt sorry for his wife and wanted no part of being involved with a married man to keep my job as a waitress. Maybe I should have told her or filed a complaint. But I was made to feel like somehow it was my fault.
Lessons Learned
- Never compromise your own core values -- you will always regret it later.
- File a complaint. I did not and quit my job (this was back in 1980 when things were harder for women.) He should have been the one to get fired but I did not want to face the questions I might be asked. It was just too humiliating.
- I do NOT recommend any relationship at work that must be kept secret.
