In recent years (1997-2006) women-owned businesses have experienced rapid growth in certain industries. The most impressive growth can be seen in the service sector.

The following Table 1 breaks down the growth rate among women business owners, showing the industry, the total number of businesses, and the percentage of increase represented for the period 1997-2006.
