This is a very basic list of filing deadlines for U.S. federal and state income taxes and is not intended to be all inclusive. For a complete list of all IRS filing deadlines please see IRS Publication 509 (.pdf download).
For more information about individual state tax deadlines contact your own state department of revenue.
Monthly Tax Payments
State Sales Taxes: You must submit state sales tax on a monthly basis. Contact your state's department of revenue or board of franchise to find out specific information about state sales taxes.
IRS Monthly vs. Quarterly Payments: Instead of making estimated quarterly tax payments, the IRS may allow you to make monthly payments.
Quarterly Tax Payments
Employers and the self-employment may be required to make quarterly tax payments. There are some exceptions (i.e., if you run a nonprofit corporation, or payroll is small, the IRS may request that you file on an annual basis instead of on a quarterly basis). But generally, if you have income from self-employment and will pay more than $1,000 in taxes during a tax year, you need to make quarterly tax payments.Tax Information for the Self-Employed:
