Sexist Quotes and Comments About Women Made By, And In The Media

Men And Women Who Should Know Better Than To Sell Women Short

By

During a phone interview on the January 21, 2011 edition of Fox & Friends, Bill O'Reilly claimed that increased criticism of certain conservative women was due to something he described as the "good-looking factor" and stated that "the better looking these women are like Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin, the more the left attacks them."

While Fox Network program hosts often make racist, ageist, and sexist remarks, Fox is not the only culprit. Here are public personalities who have made sexist remarks about women.

What Are the Rudest, Nastiest, Most Sexist Comments About Women You've Heard?

1. Patricia Heaton

"Men are very competent in their workplace - and this is going to sound sexist - women are better at running households and juggling lots of things, kids and scheduling and that kind of thing."

Second, separate sexist comment made by Heaton, "But I think boys ultimately are easier than girls."

2. Andy Gray and Richard Keys

"Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her," said Keys. "Can you believe that? A female linesman. Women don't know the offside rule," said Gray. Keys replied "Course they don't. I can guarantee you there will be a big one today. Kenny (Dalglish) will go potty. This isn't the first time, is it? Didn't we have one before?" And then he added "The game's gone mad. Did you hear charming [West Ham vice-chairwoman] Karren Brady this morning complaining about sexism? Do me a favour, love."

3. Rush Limbaugh

"I'm a huge supporter of women. ... Feminism is what I oppose. Feminism has led women astray. I love women. I don't know how this all got started. I love the women's movement, especially when walking behind it."

4. Joe Chillemi, Fox News Vice President

During a department discussion about discrimination in the workplace, said that when choosing between hiring a man or a woman, "of course I'd pick the man. The woman would most likely get pregnant and leave."

5. Brian Kilmeade, Co-Host, Fox & Friends

On the January 24, 2011 show, Brian Kilmeade and Gretchen Carlson discussed sanctuary spaces in the home for men and women, during which Kilmeade asked Carlson, "Didn't men give you the kitchen?" MediaMatters.org reports that on a subsequent show four days later, "the hosts headed outside to a custom-made 'Mom Cave,' which purports to be a room in which woman can find sanctuary while "your man watches TV." Interior designer Elaine Griffin, who coined the term "Mom Cave," suggested the room could also serve as a place for women to 'relax' and 'make lists of things to do' while 'your man is getting ready for the Super Bowl.'"

6. Judge Andrew P. Napolitano, Fox News Senior Judicial Analyst

From the January 25 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:

BRIAN KILMEADE (co-host): Judge, I want to find out what's on your show tonight.

NAPOLITANO: Kristi Noem. That hot, new freshman member of Congress is going to be on to tell us why the president's State of the Union is just a pep rally.

KILMEADE: And Judge, when you say "hot," you mean exciting, intellectual lawmaker.

NAPOLITANO: And a good looker, too.

[...]

NAPOLITANO: You want to come on set, Kilmeade?

KILMEADE: I'm thinking about it.

7. John McCain, Senator

"Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly, and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, 'Where is that marvelous ape?'"

8. Gordon Liddy

"Let's hope that the key conferences aren't when she's menstruating or something, or just before she's going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then." ~ Gordon Liddy about Sonia Sotomayor

9. Bill Cooksey, WRKO

"I think she's hot .... She's tiny, she's short. She's got a banging little body on her. Facial-wise, I give her about a seven. Body-wise, I give her about an eight-and-a-half. Tight, little butt. I endorse Karyn Polito."
