MIT Offers Free Courses to the General Public

MIT
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers many of its college courses online - for free to anyone interested in self-paced learning. You do not earn credits for the courses you take but you will learn a lot and get to see if you are made of "MIT stuff!"

Each course includes content, reading lists, homework, lecture notes, exams, and more.

MIT encourages students who take advantage of the free courses to consider making a small donation (as little as $5.00). The plea is low-key and barely visible on their website and is not necessary to take a course.

Of interest to business women in general: Women's gender studies; Sloan business management; economics; media arts and sciences; urban studies and planning, and literally hundreds more.

Economic Analysis for Business Decisions

One of the courses I took for purposes of this review was 15.010 / 15.011 "Economic Analysis for Business Decisions." The course included a syllabus, lessons, support materials, and exams needed to complete the course. (You can also separately download answers to all exams.)

I learned a lot (read a lot, and studied hard) and it took me about 6 weeks to get through the course - which was worth the time and cost. How fast you get through any course offered by MIT depends on your time available to devote to studies and your ability to work independently.

Getting to take the same tests, mid-terms, and final exams (and grade your own tests with an answer key)that enrolled MIT students are required to take was particularly rewarding.

Because you must be willing to invest time (and purchase materials) be sure to take a course that is of interest or value to you. These courses are not for the casual and curious. But that is part of what makes free MIT courses worthwhile.

Discounts on MIT Reading and Study Materials

To complete courses you will need to purchase the same required reading materials enrolled students must purchase. But anyone who takes MIT's free courses can shop through a link on their site to get a 10% discount off all reading materials.
