Each course includes content, reading lists, homework, lecture notes, exams, and more.
MIT encourages students who take advantage of the free courses to consider making a small donation (as little as $5.00). The plea is low-key and barely visible on their website and is not necessary to take a course.

Economic Analysis for Business Decisions
I learned a lot (read a lot, and studied hard) and it took me about 6 weeks to get through the course - which was worth the time and cost. How fast you get through any course offered by MIT depends on your time available to devote to studies and your ability to work independently.
Getting to take the same tests, mid-terms, and final exams (and grade your own tests with an answer key)that enrolled MIT students are required to take was particularly rewarding.
Because you must be willing to invest time (and purchase materials) be sure to take a course that is of interest or value to you. These courses are not for the casual and curious. But that is part of what makes free MIT courses worthwhile.
Discounts on MIT Reading and Study Materials
To complete courses you will need to purchase the same required reading materials enrolled students must purchase. But anyone who takes MIT's free courses can shop through a link on their site to get a 10% discount off all reading materials.
