Do You Know Where Your Candidate of Choice Stands on Women’s Business Issues?

All four candidates in the 2008 presidential election have lied or made deceptive statements about where they stand and where their opponent stands. So how can you truly vote your own beliefs if you are not being given the facts? You may think you are voting to support an issue that, in fact, your own candidate does not support.

For example, are you voting against Obama's support of teaching explicit sex education to kindergartners and elementary school children (a McCain lie) or against McCain for wanting a 100-year war with Iraq (an Obama lie)?

WIB helps you find the facts about McCain and Palin, and Obama and Biden. How you vote is up to you, but do vote on facts, not smear-say.

The Candidates on Legislation for Fair and Equal Pay for Women

Barack Obama Introduced the The Fair Pay Restoration Act. The main purpose of this Act was to clarify that “an unlawful to practice occurs each time compensation is paid pursuant to a discriminatory compensation decision or other practice, and for other purposes.” This act was not passed by the Senate, and was not supported by Sen. McCain.

When a new bill was introduced,H.R. 2831 – Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, Obama and Joe Biden both supported this bill; McCain did not. Since Sarah Palin is a governor, and was not able to vote on this bill; however, she has made a public statement that she supports John McCain’s refusal to support the H.R. 2831 bill.

The Candidates on Equal Contracting Opportunities for Women-Owned Businesses

Barack Obama has proposed implementing the Women Owned Business Contracting Program (WOBCP). This program was signed into law by President Clinton, but was never implemented under either of the Bush administrations. WOBCP is a program to encourage more women to participate in competing for federal contracts.

He also proposes to open up new funding resources for minority- and women-owned businesses and legislate to eliminate unfair and discriminatory lending practices to women.

How Barack Obama Plans to Support Women in Business

John McCain reached across party lines in an effort to help women business owners. Senate Bill S 3077 Strengthening Transparency and Accountability in Federal Spending Act of 2008, was sponsored by Barack Obama and was co-sponsored by Senators John McCain (R-AZ), Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Thomas Carper (D-DE).
