How to Test Market Videos Before Launching Them

Tips for Creating Viral Marketing Videos

Children can provide honest feedback about the quality of your videos. If a child can understand your message, chances are most grownups will get it, too.

Test Market Your Videos Before You Attempt to Go Viral

Three most important rules of test marketing marketing videos:

  1. Never set up the video for viewers. Just let them watch and get their first and most honest reaction;

  2. Ask other people to watch your video and tell you what they like, do not like, and what they learned from it; and

  3. Don't be a know-it-all; listen and learn from what your viewers are saying and be willing to make adjustments where appropriate.

Choosing The Right Test Subjects

Be sure to show any marketing videos you create to at least five other people before you take it live. Include people who represent demographics of any markets you plan to target. For example, if your business sells consulting services, include professionals from groups that you might sell your services too. If you sell clothing for women, include women in your test market group.

Kids Can be Your Best Marketing Critics

Unless you are marketing something that might be considered harmful or offensive to children, always ask at least 2-3 children ages 8-12 what they think about your video. Children tend to make quick judgments and are usually more honest about what they like and do not like than adults.

As with adult test subjects, do not tell kids what your video is about. Just have them watch and ask what they thought the message was. If your message is clear to a school-aged child, it will be clear to the masses.
