Flickr: A Surprising Little Business Tool
Flickr (there is no "e") came on the scene in 2004 and fast became a staple for bloggers, web site owners, and people of all age groups for sharing videos and photographs.
In 2005 Yahoo! acquired Flickr. It phased out Flickr's chat room and promoted it heavily as a digital information sharing service keeping the majority of its branding strategies in place.
Flickr is more than just a media storage device; it has a strong and active community of followers. Because Flickr is so widely known and popular, many businesses now use Flickr as a place to send their own visitors to see digital images and videos. They could just as easily add digital works to their own website (or blogs) but involving Flickr contributes to a greater sense of community and connectivity between businesses and consumers.
The Flickr logo uses only two soft colors: blue and pink (both "gender" colors.) The Flickr logo with graphics uses circles. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top. Another example of how moderation and simplicity can make a fabulous logo.
