Definition - Case Law

By

Definition: Case law refers to laws that are made by court interpretations of cases and laws. Case laws are usually published legal decisions (not all outcomes of lawsuits are published decisions) that are used to establish legal precedents for deciding future cases.

Laws are also made through the legislative process (introduced as bills and voted on), or in some states passed by propositions. Our sources of laws are statutes and regulations.
