What is the Paycheck Fairness Act?

The Paycheck Fairness Act is a proposed bill to “amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to provide more effective remedies to victims of discrimination in the payment of wages on the basis of sex, and for other purposes.” Status of Related Bills

Date Introduced: Match 6, 2007

Status of H.R. 1338 Paycheck Fairness Act: This bill has been passed in the House of Representatives (July 31, 2008). The bill is now before the Senate who may be debating a similar companion bill rather than this particular bill. (Updated 12/15/2008)

Sponsors: This was sponsored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and co-sponsored by 230 Representatives (and one Delegate from the Virgin Islands).
