Leasing Definitions - What Does "Rentable Square Feet" Mean?

Definition: According to BOMA Standards, "Rentable Square Feet" is a term that combines "usable square feet" plus a portion of the common area. The difference between usable square feet and rentable square feet is generally between 10-15%, with rentable square feet reflecting a higher amount (cost) than just usable square feet.

How is Rentable Square Feet Calculated?

Usable SF + a Percentage of the Common Areas of the Building (that is divided among all tenants based on the percent of usable square feet each tenant occupies).
