Hi Everyone,
I have a carpet cleaning business in Houston,TX that was doing pretty good until the economy went bad, and with it my clientele. I have a website for the business but I dont
know what I have to do the get it to show up in a search. Right now it’s somewhere in the yahoo/google netherworld (LOL).

Is there someone on here that can give me some insight or know of anyone that coud give me insight on how I can get my local website on the front
page of a Yahoo or Google search to increase my business without it costing me 5 or 10k $$$? If so please share with me.

I thank you and my hungry over-eating children thank you.

thanks,

Tony B.

I am glad you asked! If you have any knowledge of how SEO (search engine optimization) works and administer your own website, I always encourage business owners with small budgets to try and optimize their own website first.

Unless your website is really large (or poorly done and needs other work) you should not pay anyone $5-10K to optimize your website. I prefer companies that charge by the page instead of by the hour.

Start by Googling keywords you want to focus on. For example, “carpet cleaning houston.” Look at the top 10 websites that come up in searches. Visit these websites and right click your mouse to view their metadata (source code). Look for “meta name =”description… and meta name=”keywords” and the page title. This information will be in the top of the code.

Study the competition’s code – do not copy it this is illegal and you need your own metadata tailored to your own website. But it will give you an idea how successful websites are getting ranked.

SEO is complicated and you may need a professional to help you. My own SEO business offers consulting services to teach people learn how to do their own site work. This is a growing area of services provided by SEO companies I hope to see more of.

If you do not have the budget to hire someone to do your SEO work, you might be able to afford a consultant to look at your website and give you ideas on how You can do your own work.

Read my articles on SEO to learn what it is and gain tips on how to SEO your own website.

How to Avoid SEO Scams is a good place to start.

Good luck with your business and with feeding your hungry children.
